Homework Expectations
Weekly Homework:
|
As part of being prepared, students are expected to have their homework completed on time as assigned. Homework is practice of the skills and concepts being taught in school, so homework is graded on a completion and effort basis. That means that if your child does the best they can to answer all parts of the assigned homework on time, they receive credit for homework. To help parents understand what homework your child is accomplishing or not, the agenda book and monthly progress reports will be used to communicate with you. Missing or incomplete homework assignments will be noted in the agenda book. So, please check it frequently to encourage the connection between school and home.
Students are learning to self-correct their own work with guidance in class. This skill will take a little time and practice to get used to. We go over homework or classwork with partners, small groups, or with the whole class. After modeling and practicing how to correct work, students are expected to correct their own mistakes when we go over the work together by writing down the correct answers as well as trying to figure out their mistakes during the process of discussion. They are encouraged to ask questions when they are stuck or are still unsure of their mistakes. Students are more engaged in their own learning during this process and develop a better understanding of the skills and concepts. Students will be supervised in this process and I will follow up with students as needed during instruction. I hope to build confidence as well as motivation to succeed by teaching the students to self-correct and engage them in their learning. |
