Family and Community Engagement Suggestions and Resources by the U.S. Department of Education
- Enforce Healthy Habits: Have your child get plenty of sleep; eat a good breakfast; bring healthy snacks and drink water; encourage activity
- Develop a Homework Routine: Explore with your child what time of day and what location works best for consistent homework completion given your family's schedule and home life.
- Talk with you child: Ask questions about school. Show interest in what's going on and what they're learning or having trouble with. Expect success by letting kids know that you care about how they do in school. Encourage their best so they can be proud of what they accomplish.
- Create a Home to School Connection: Designate a place for communication between school and home to help keep things organized. Read information that comes home and check the classroom website for updates. Contact the teacher if you have questions or concerns.
- Read, Read, Read: Encourage your child to read "a just right book" that interests them. Read with your child. Make reading part of your household environment.
